This Abandoned Device Policy explains how Serv Tel Ltd ("we", "us", "our", "ServTel") handles devices that are not collected, paid for, or otherwise claimed following repair, inspection, or service.
This policy is designed to protect both our customers and our business, and is in accordance with applicable UK laws, including the Torts (Interference with Goods) Act 1977.
1. Definition of an Abandoned Device
A device will be considered abandoned if:
- It has not been collected within 30 days of notification that the service is complete, or
- Payment has not been made within 30 days of invoice, or
- We have made reasonable attempts to contact you without response
2. Customer Notification
We will make reasonable efforts to contact you before deeming a device abandoned, including:
- Email notifications
- Telephone calls or SMS messages
- Account or service notifications
It is your responsibility to ensure your contact details are accurate and up to date.
3. Storage Period and Charges
Devices will be stored for a maximum of 30 days after completion of service or notification.
We reserve the right to apply storage charges after this period, including:
- Daily or weekly storage fees
- Administrative handling costs
Any such charges will be added to your outstanding balance.
4. Disposal of Abandoned Devices
If your device remains unclaimed after 30 days and reasonable contact attempts have failed, we reserve the right to:
- Sell the device to recover outstanding costs
- Recycle or dispose of the device responsibly
- Use proceeds to offset unpaid fees, storage costs, and administrative expenses
Any remaining balance after costs may be retained or handled in accordance with applicable law.
5. Recovery of Costs
We reserve the right to recover:
- Outstanding repair or service fees
- Storage charges
- Administrative costs
- Costs associated with disposal or resale
6. Data Protection and Device Content
We are not responsible for any data stored on abandoned devices.
Prior to disposal or resale:
- We may attempt to wipe data where reasonably possible
- We do not guarantee complete data erasure
You are responsible for backing up and removing personal data before submitting your device.
7. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law:
- We accept no liability for loss of device or data after it has been deemed abandoned
- We are not responsible for any indirect or consequential loss arising from disposal
8. Customer Responsibility
You agree to:
- Collect your device promptly after notification
- Pay all outstanding charges
- Maintain accurate contact details
9. Exceptional Circumstances
We may, at our discretion, extend the storage period in exceptional circumstances where reasonable communication has been maintained.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date.
